2027: APC Presidential Aspirants To Pay N100m, Governorship N50m For Primaries

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) commences the process of its primary elections ahead of next year’s general elections across various elective positions, starting with the formal notice of election to state chapters and commencement of sale of forms at the APC national secretariat on Monday, 20 April.
A schedule signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, provides detailed timelines for the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms, screening of aspirants, publication of results, appeals and conduct of primary elections for all levels of elective offices.
This is in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Electoral Act 2026 and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revised timetable and schedule of activities for the general elections.
The party said the release of the schedule underscored its commitment to credible and transparent primaries aimed at strengthening internal democracy and consolidating its progressive ideals ahead of the polls.
The sale of forms will run from Saturday, April 25 to Saturday, May 2, while Monday, May 4, is the deadline for the submission of completed forms and accompanying documents by aspirants.
Screening of aspirants will follow in phases, with aspirants for State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship positions to be screened between Wednesday, May 6, and Friday, May 8, while presidential aspirants are scheduled for screening on Saturday, May 9.
The screening results will be published on Monday, May 11, covering all categories of offices, after which aggrieved aspirants will have the opportunity to file appeals within two days, Tuesday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 13, before the party proceeds to its primaries.
Primary elections will commence after the appeals process, beginning with the presidential primary on Friday, May 15, to Saturday, May 16, followed by the House of Representatives on Monday, May 18, Senate on Wednesday, May 20, and State House of Assembly on Thursday, May 21, and Friday, May 22, and the governorship on Saturday, May 23.
Presidential primary appeals are expected to be heard from Monday, May 18; House of Representatives on Wednesday, May 20; Senate on Thursday, May 21; State House of Assembly on Saturday, May 23; and Governorship on Monday, May 25.
State houses of assembly aspirants will pay N1million for expression of interest and N5million for nomination forms; House of Representatives, N1million and N9million, respectively; senatorial, N3million for expression of interest and N17million for nomination forms; governorship, N10million for expression of interest and N40million for nomination forms; and presidential, N30million for expression of interest and N70million for nomination forms.
As a concession, female aspirants, youths and persons with disabilities will pay only for the expression of interest forms and 50 per cent of the nomination fees for their respective offices.
According to a timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), presidential and national assembly elections will hold on January 16, next year, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections hold on February 6.
By the timetable, political parties are to conduct their primaries between April 23 and May 30, including the resolution of all disputes arising thereof, while presidential and national assembly elections campaigns will commence on August 19, and the governorship and state houses of assembly on September 9.
All campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.
