Police Nab Woman For Allegedly Stealing Two Babies To Replace Dead Twins In Delta
THE Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman, identified simply as Joy, for allegedly abducting two babies after the death of her own twin children.
The Command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe (SP), in a Facebook video, said the suspect, deceived a 14-year-old caregiver by pretending to be a customer at a groundnut-selling point, stole a four-month-old baby and fled with the child while others were distracted.
Edafe noted that Police investigation also revealed that Joy had earlier abducted another baby after befriending an 18-year-old mother under the guise of helping her secure a house help.
He stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed that her biological six-week old twins had died while she was away from home, even as preparations had been made for their dedication, with invitations already sent out by her husband before the tragedy occurred.
Edafe said the suspect, fearing embarrassment before relatives and invited guests, allegedly decided to abduct a boy and a girl to replace her dead twins, who were thereafter presented and dedicated before her arrest.
The Command’s spokesman noted that the abducted babies had been recovered, while investigation was ongoing, urging parents and guardians to be vigilant and avoid entrusting children to strangers, no matter how trustworthy they may appear.
